I have been watching the Lakers as a child during the Showtime era. I feel as a longtime Lakers fan, I deserve an explaination from the organization as to why they make such horrible decisions! Why let go of Shaq for near nothing? Why pass on Ron Artest? Why pass on other players for Andrew Bynum (an unexperienced child)? Why not sign Al Harrington when it would only cost one draft pick? What is the mindset of this organization? I am tired of listening to sports talk radio hype on about how Dr. Buss has a plan and how Mitch Kupchak is in control. When will they give us an idea of how they will bring this organization back to its rightful place as champions? Or are they just milking the revenues from all the sales of Kobe jerseys (which will be even more now with a new jersey number)? Why doesn't anyone realize that the Lakers have been falling apart since the departure of Jerry West? Why is everyone so optimistic about this lack of proper decision making?

They have to make some choices in which the turn of events they are so unlucky.
- Kobe-Shaq combo is a guaranteed legendary winning team, if one of them will relinquish their alpha dog status (one of them taking the Pippen to Jordan position). BUT, Kobe is getting tired of being under Shaq's shadow and having an asterisks on every ring he won with Shaq. So...
- They had to choose between Kobe and Shaq, considering Shaq's declining number it is logical that they choose Kobe. It looks bad since Shaq ended up winning the first title since he and Kobe split up.
- Phil Jackson Zen Coaching relies heavily on the alpha dog realizing that he needed his teamates (worked for MJ, so far not for Kobe). Then again Odom begrudgingly take the Pippen position. Once in a while, though, after a Kobe selfish-basket, on the ensuing play Odom will score a basket with identical manner. if you watch the games, you'll notice this last season more often than not.
- Triangle offense thrives in man to man defense setup, The NBA rules of matchup zone defense somewhat reduce the effectiveness, not to mention that it needs the alpha dog to let the teammates share the ball.
Considering their front office move so far, I think they have two possible strategy.
- Making an abysmal team so they will be in position to sign Greg Oden (or whoever comes out in the next draft, predicted to be the most talented draft since LeBron's class.)
- Making a cap space to sign LeBron or Carmelo, both will be available in three years time as a restricted free agent, or lure them for trade in the next season or two.
Or they have no strategy at all, just waiting for kobe to come to his senses.
The Lakers are in Southern California, therefore they're stuck with management that is willing to live there. In case you haven't noticed after the Californians ruined their state, they've started moving and are trying to ruin everyone Else's state. i.e. Las Vegas, Seattle, Denver.
So tho answer your question...Their management sucks because they were the only available people to take the job.
