I don't know what Laker fans you've been talking to, but, as a Laker fan myself, I'm confident the Lakers will take this in 6.

Both teams will be nerved and rattled in the 1st half of the first game, but Boston will come back in the second half. However, the Lakers will hold a 12-point lead going into the 3rd quarter, and hold it off for a victory.
The Lakers may lose game one... it's in Boston and the two teams really haven't played each other. Once the Lakers play them and get a feel for how it will go... they will win the series in 6.

Just stay with the team they have. I see a good future for them. Kobe exploded this year, and still, barely has a shot at MVP, Smush Parker is one of the Most Improved Players, and Brian Cook and Andrew Bynum have been heating up lately for some good futures. I don't want Odom to go, no matter how inconsistent he is. I feel this team is great the way it is. But, then again, if they are going to trade, it's either going to be Odom for a PG, or Odom and a couple other guys for a center or power forward. KG is out of range. Sorry, guys.

They are definitely good now, they got 1 superstar(Kobe) and 2 all-stars(gasol and odom) and 1 all-star (bynum) in the making and veteran leadership from Fisher. The only team that arguably has a better starting 5 is the Pistons.

Also Gasol is there for the long term so that gives Kobe more of a reason to stay with the Lakers and to keep these core together.

I see them having trouble when Bynum and Gasol will be playing together but they should be able to figure it out before the post season. They definitely have a chance at making a huge run in the playofs.

Gasols fantasy-wise is probably going to suffer and probably same with Bynum

Even a healthy Bynum + Kobe wasn't unbeatable. Gasol's Grizzly team has lots of talent, but isn't exactly a top team. I don't see him being a guarantee in making a giant impact for the Lakers. I think there just has been a lot of pressure for LA to pick up another star to play alongside Kobe.

In my opinion Bynum has more potential as a center than Farmar does as a point guard. Bynum can probably end up like Dwight Howard, but Farmar on the other hand will probably just be a Carlos Arroyo or a Jason Williams. He does have a nice vertical though

The way they are playing right now, yes, the Lakers will make the playoffs. I think they can even make some noise there, perhaps pulling a first, maybe even a second round upset. They won't make it to the finals though because 1) kobe is good, lamar can be something special, but their defense needs to be waay better (unless they can miraculously come up with a great defense) and 2) the west is really strong. You got the powers (SA, PHO, and DAL), the up-and-comers (HOU and LAC and I think LAL), and the others who have playoff potentials (SAC, NOK, UTA (they probably will cuz of the division), DEN) . Memphis and Golden State the rest of the Northwest won't make it this year.

Garnett is a great player and a helluva guy. He doesn't want to get mixed up in that jerk Kobe's mess. Phoenix would be a perfect fit for Garnett.

Actually the Laker trade is dead. There is a 3 way team trade involving Phoenix, Boston, and Minnesota that is currently in the works. The only thing that is keeping this from being finalized is Shawn Marion. Boston wants him to sign an extension on his contract so they can get him for more than just 1 year. This is in the works as we speak

Lakers and Celtics would be an awesome, storybook Final. Lakers seeking their 15th title while the Celtics would be seeking their 17th. The Lake Show versus the Boston 3 Party. It would be a PR frenzy and gold mine. Could it happen? I think so, but it will be a very tough road for both squads. The Lakers are playing great ball, but they will have to escape from the West and potentially face-off with some highly potent teams (Spurs, Suns, Jazz, and Hornets to name a few) in doing so. The Celtics have go through the Pistons and Cavs. I think the Magic are a good playoff sleeper, but highly inconsistent to say they're worthy of an upset. If I had to pick which has a better shot at the Finals, I would say the Celts because the Lakers have to come out of the West which is so strong. It's going to be a lot of fun to watch it all unfold.

There's no chance, because they won't be able to take both games that are in Boston. Also, the Celtics have more star power and depth. The only people you can count on almost every game for a 25 points or more performance is Kobe Bryant. You can expect that most of the time from KG, Pierce, and Allen. Other than that, the Lakers are lucky to get 15 out of each starter.

Not a chance. They had most of those elements last year, and only managed 42 wins. In the West, there's no reason to think the Lakers will significantly improve unless they make a genuinely drastic roster move. The players they've added so far won't be enough to keep up with the negative effects of aging and injuries.

They *might* be a 50-win team if they were in the East, but even that's doubtful. So many other teams are getting competitive and adding talent, and the Lakers are doing almost nothing to improve.

The Lakers and Celtics again! I love it! I'm enamored by the city of Boston and New England in particular(it's so uniquely beautiful), but Los Angeles is the ultimate for me. I lived in Southern California as a small child, and L.A. has always stuck with me ever since. I must confess I was on the Celtic bandwagon for a time from 86-88, and rooted for them in 87 against the Lakers. It's a complicated reason as to why I did that. But since then, my undying love for L.A. has returned me to rooting for the Lakers like I always SHOULD have. I am so happy that they are playing the Celtics again. I feel I'm making up for not rooting for L.A. in 87.

As for the actual matchup? I can't logically see how the Lakers can lose. Yes, Boston had a better record and swept the Lakers during the season. However, considering the talent level of their respective conferences, it's quite another story. Boston was taken the distance by Atlanta, the EIGHTH seed with a LOSING record. Cleveland went the distance with them as well. Meanwhile, over in the West, Golden State DID NOT qualify for the postseason despite a 48-34 record. How question-raising is that in itself? Not to mention that Kobe and Co. made it look so easy against the Spurs. Aging San Antonio may be, but still the class of the NBA. If these are any indicators, L.A. is in for a great '08!

Overall this Lakers team is much superior than the Bulls team.

Probably the Rockets, especially without Yao. When you got Mutumbo at center and Chuck Hayes as the back up it only spells trouble. Plus it seems as if Mcgrady can't turn it on anymore like he used to. Utah has more options overall in Boozer, Williams, Kirilenko, Okur, and even Millsap and Ronnie Brewer. But Kirilenko and Odom are a great matchup to watch.

The whole point of that trade for the Nuggets perspective is to dump salary and get under the luxury tax. Brown's contract is for only one more season, while Camby's has 3 or 4 more years.

They're probably laughing about how stupid the trade offer is. The Nuggets would have to be drunk, drugged, and half asleep before they would even think about the trade. Camby won Defensive Player of the Year and it was well deserved because of his stellar play in the post. The only way they could look at the trade is if Camby began to start stacking up injury after injury like he had a couple of years ago, but that doesn't look likely because he looks very healthy right now and the Nuggets will do everything possible to keep it that way. The other problem is that the Pacers are talking to the Lakers about trades that involve Kwame Brown, but no one really knows how serious the talks are.

I saw the game and was thoroughly entertained. What a great comeback win. I still like Denver though.
Well they're definitely a playoff team and I'm guessing top 5, 6 for sure. But title contenders? Not this year, sorry. The reality is that they still lack enough of an inside presence even with Bynum. However, I think next year they will be one of the elites and Bynum will finally play at an All-Star level. The only thing that can hurt them now is injuries and the possibility of Kobe opting out next year. If all goes right though, I think the next few years will be good in Lakerland with the emergence of not only Bynum but also Farmar.

They need a few seasons before they are legit contenders. I am however, glad that they exposed the Nuggets. They were being called title contenders in the off season, I don't think so!

As for the Spurs, yes they kept the big 3 under raps, but when team is everything you figure out a way to win. As the season goes on and teams like the Jazz, Spurs, and Rockets fine tune it will be harder for the Lakers to beat them as the all play good defense. The Lakers tend to struggle against those teams, but do well against the more offensive minded teams like the Suns and Mavs.

Question about the Lakers Memphis and the bulls?

Ok far as the Lakers goes so whats going on now are they still after either Kevin Garnett or Jermaine o'neal? I really don't see Kevin Garnett going to the Lakers.They need to just go ahead and trade for Jermaine o'neal before the Nets get him.They need to trade Kwame Brown for a really good small foward.Morris Peterson even Mike Miller just example.Once they get a small foward then make the trade for o'neal.Then try to bring Derek Fisher back so he can work with the younger point guards.

Memphis why do they want Andres Nocioni when they have Mike Miller? Isn't he a small foward or is that for more depth?Thats why I brought up The Lakers should try to get him if they dont' want him anymore.Kwame Brown for Miller could work.

Good luck in the future to the spurs. They have an old roster but you still cannot count out a team with Duncan, parker, and ginobli. I am sure they will come back strong next year. Well, the Lakers are ascending will the Spurs are on their way down but they still formidable in the future, i don't know if the Spurs can ever win the title again especially if the Lakers are this great. But this Western Finals game show you a glimpse of what to come for the Lakers in the future. The Lakers are just a better team from top to bottom than the Spurs and it's show at 5 game 5, the Lakers are the future.
The refs aren't perfect all the time; but they are correct 99.9% of the time. So, let's dismiss all these thoughts about a "rigged" Western Finals. It's getting ridiculous.

Un-freakin-believable how the end played out exactly as I called it, after a nice comfortable lead was generated by the confidence instilled in the Celtics thanks to the worst officiating ever seen, they coyly swallowed those whistles against the Lakers in the 2nd half, and allowed the Lakers to play long enough to just about catch up, then with the game almost in total jeapardy brought out the whistle just in time to seal the already decided victory for Boston.

i'm proud of the lakers they played pretty good at the end. it is obvious that if the officials would have at least called the fouls semi-fairly the lakers would have won the game. now since the series is switchin to LA, celtcis fans have a reason to be afraid because the 15+ fouls that were called on the lakers are all gonna be stripped away.
